"CRAIG FOSTER - DIRECTOR/DIRECTOR OF PHOTOGRAPHY" Craig was born and raised in Cape Town, South Africa and is most passionate about the ancient desert and semi-desert landscapes of the interior as well as the coastal and marine environments. He is also an experienced scuba and free diver, and knows the Cape south coast intimately. An artist and photographer, he has over 14 years of experience as a filmmaker, both as a director and D.O.P, in broadcast television and film. He specializes in high definition (HDTV) productions, underwater photography and miniature camera systems. Experience as both a lighting cameraman in Africa and the USA, and as principal editor for a London production house, has given him a very sound technical knowledge as a director. Despite his international experience, his real passion lies with the people and landscapes of remote parts of Africa. His key interest lies in providing a place for African people to tell stories through the medium of non-fiction television and cinematic films. His company, Earthrise, is based in Cape Town and is managed by his wife, Sara. As well as films, they create photographic exhibitions and books. Taking inspiration from the natural environment in which they live, they create unique "land art" sculptures and have exhibited photographs of these and San rock engravings in venues such as the National Gallery in Cape Town. Craig's film credits include:
"AFRICA UNBOTTLED"
"BLESSED"
"SAVAGE SEAS"
"WALLS OF SOAP AND CHOCOLATE" "TRACKS-TRACKING WITH THE SAN OF THE KALAHARI" (50min, TOP, TBS Superstation, National Geographic; Narrated by Lauren Hutton; documentary on San indigenous knowledge) - Director and Cinematographer
"DAMON FOSTER - DIRECTOR/EDITOR/DIRECTOR OF PHOTOGRAPHY" Born and brought up in Cape Town, South Africa, Damon has lived most of his life in close proximity with the sea, and the South Atlantic in particular. He is an experienced scuba and free diver, and has an intimate knowledge of the coastal and marine environment. He has traveled extensively and lived with his wife for six months on a remote island in the South Pacific. Having trained and worked in London as an editor he went on to work in commercials, features and documentaries in New York. Returning home to South Africa in 1997, he developed and filmed the underwater scenes for the BBC's 'Wildlife on One' film, "The Mountain of the Sea" and for "Otjikoto, Lake of Legend". In addition to his strong technical skills around cameras, housings, harnesses and edit suites, he is an energetic and creative director and cameraman who brings his deep knowledge of and expertise in the editing process to the pre-production and production phase of the projects. Likewise his full involvement in production adds a rich dimension to the final edit. He is an award-winning underwater cameraman and editor. His credits include:
"OTJIKOTO, LAKE OF LEGEND" "THE SINGER AND THE SEA" Cameraman and Editor. Winner of the silver medal, South African National TV Assn. Awards
"BRENT SPAR, NO HIDING PLACE"
"TRACKS-TRACKING WITH THE SAN OF THE KALAHARI"
"JAMES HERSOV - EXECUTIVE PRODUCER/PRODUCER" James grew up in Johannesburg and went to school in the Kwazulu-Natal midlands of South Africa. Thereafter he graduated with an MA in Social Anthropology from Cambridge University. Returning to South Africa, he won a Fulbright Scholarship and a place at Harvard Business School, which he turned down in favor of founding his own international trading company. He has traveled widely and is still a director of several public companies. He is passionate about anything to do with the air and being high above the earth and was very active in paragliding and skydiving. As a qualified pilot for almost twenty years, he has flown himself around most of southern Africa, for business and adventure, including some of the most remote places. This has given him a special appreciation for aerials in cinematography. He is also a keen hiker and has climbed in the Karakorams and the Andes. He walked with a team (for "Save The Rhino International") from Mombassa, to the summit of Kilimanjaro wearing a rubber rhino costume. He is also a keen scuba diver. He is currently co-authoring a novel on Africa and producing documentary films full time. His combination of love of the outdoors, special interests in Archaeology and Anthropology, commercial, financial and marketing experience and flying skills, are strong influences on his approach to filmmaking. His film credits include:
"THE ART OF TRACKING"
"TRACKS-TRACKING WITH THE SAN OF THE KALAHARI"
