The Story of an Unusual Friendship

South African fisherman Peter Esterhuizen had a mission: to help whales and make others love them as he did. This film is the remarkable true story of a man and the giant Southern Right whales of the beautiful Cape Coast.

Peter's story unfolds through the eyes of Cape Town filmmaker, Jeremy de Kock. It takes place on a deceptively tranquil stretch of coast, where a river mouth with a terrible reputation once trapped a giant whale. It would have died, had Peter not rescued it. And that day, his passion was born.

Once hooked, there was no turning back. Peter claimed a special kinship with the whales. Many thought him crazy. Scientists dismissed him. Others praised him and owed their love of whales to him. Jeremy de Kock tells us the strange and moving story of Peter and "his" whales.
